Why can't I get promoted?
In my career, I had great managers who supported and promoted me.
I had the other kind of boss, too...
A man who was convinced my place was at home, raising a family and cooking for my husband (I don’t even know how to boil water…). The other one, a woman who could not stand seeing people (women?) happy and thriving.
I thought my situation was wonderfully unique and that I should write a bestseller about it, become a millionaire and spend the whole day sipping chocolate milkshakes by the pool.
Unfortunately, all my coaching clients share the same stories.
And anyway, milkshakes are too cold (I have very sensitive teeth).
Ladies tell me all the time that the promotion they were promised was taken from them while their boss justified the decision with weird phrases like:
“You’re not assertive/confident/ready enough';
" you don’t have what it takes to execute your ideas”
" Strategy isn’t your thing”
And other nonsensical babble...
And the WORST is that when I meet my clients for the first time, they have started to believe this nonsense!
I say stop!
A natural born leader?!?
Whatever!
All this strange “corporate speak” might make you think lies like:
Some ladies are born to be leaders. Everyone else should sit down and be quiet.
If you don’t act like a man, you can’t get the promotion.
Or worse, you don’t belong where you KNOW you belong.
